Overlord Nagazesh

----------
Necron history remembers the Kerthyst Dynasty as one of relative prosperity, if not notability; expanding across the stars as any other Necrontyr dynasty and fighting gallantly during the War in Heaven. When the C'tan came, it was Phaeron Nagazesh, an accomplished tactician and ruler, that presided over the Dynasties small territory, and who accepted the C'tan's 'transcendence'. Even when the war turned to revolution, the Kerthyst Dynasty fared well against their erstwhile Gods, and went into the Great Sleep as if they were going through any other motion. Even as the aeon's past the slumbering Dynasty's luck held out, and their rest went undisturbed. The 41st millennium would not be so forgiving.

The Dynasty's misfortune began immediately following their awakening, for they had not be woken by protocol, but by Anrakyr the Traveller himself. Anrakyr, as always, demanded a tithe for his 'services', and ever honourable, Nagazesh paid in full. This would prove a disastrous exchange, for Nagazesh was not yet aware of the galaxy around him, and could little realise that Imotek the Stormlord was on the advance.

A military or political analyst might be surprised by what happened next, for given that most of his legions were still not awoken, and those that were had been depleted by the Traveller, one might have thought the fair minded Nagazesh would willingly assimilate into Imotek's Empire rather than face its wrath; perhaps the Great Sleep had not been so kind to Nagazesh after all. Instead, the Phaeron rejected the Stormlord's claim to rule and battle ensued, but there could be no hope for Nagazesh. For billions of years the Necron had ruled his kingdom, but in days all that was gone; his Dynasty destroyed, his legions in tatters, and his worlds lost, Nagazesh was a Phaeron no more.

Whether what occurred next was continued bad luck or not isn't yet clear, for Nagazesh's misfortune had not gone unnoticed by opportunistic eyes, and one last lord of Necrons now played his hungry hand. Nagazesh found himself in the company of a hooded figure he did not recognise, strange given they were aboard his flagship, and had made no contact with any other un-living soul. His mystery guest however had a proposition for him: a position at the head of his court, new legions to command, even a new place to call home, if Nagazesh would but serve him. Not quite ready to swallow his pride, the former Phaeron was sceptical, but that soon faded when the John Doe inclined that his interests just might be at odds with a certain Necron with an affinity for thunder and conquest. It was a shame you could not tell the look in Nagazesh's eyes.

So it was that the ships of the now Overlord Nagazesh made their first journey to the Ultima Segmentum, where Solemnace awaited.
